Bolland & Bolland are two Dutch music producers and brothers, Rob Bolland and Ferdi Bolland. They produced and wrote for such artists as Falco (including his Number 1 hit "Rock Me Amadeus"), Samantha Fox ("Love House"), and wrote the Status Quo hit "In the Army Now" – which they released under their own name in 1981 and which was also recorded by Gerard Joling. Their hit singles career started as early as 1972, with "Wait for the Sun" in a folk, a cappella-style following the success of Simon and Garfunkel and their Dutch equivalents Greenfield and Cook. When, in 1976, their success started to wane, they turned towards a more electronic sound, an early example of which can be heard in "Spaceman", a 1978 hit in the Netherlands.

This piece came about one afternoon when I was in my studio micing a classical guitar while running it through some effects into a separate channel. Nothing too complicated. There was a period where I was exploring this set up without much of a plan, seeing where it could go. An afternoon exercise. Like most of these days, I recorded this piece and put it aside for a while, not really thinking it would be worth sharing. I came back to it while I was driving, and thought it captured something I wasn't aware of at the time. Perhaps it's a driving song. The movement while listening helped me hear it differently. I hope this track can conjure up some kind of peaceful trajectory. Recorded in Dumbo, Brooklyn January 2024 by Steve Gunn.

Jazz, Bop, Latin Jazz | Verve Records #527 779-2

Verve gathers together all of the master takes of Charlie Parker's recordings with the swinging band of Afro-Cuban jazz pioneer Machito, along with ten other Latinized numbers that he cut in 1951-1952. Besides illustrating the willingness of producer Norman Granz to experiment and take Parker out of a small-group bebop straitjacket, this CD shows that Bird's improvisational style changed hardly at all in a Latin setting. He continued to run off his patented lightning bop licks over the congas and bongos and they just happened to interlock with the grooves quite snugly, although he did adapt his phrasing of the tunes themselves to suit their rhythmic lines.

Carl Stamitz (1745-1805) - with his father Johann Wenzel aka Jan Vaclav and his brother Anton one of the founders and developers of the so-called "Mannheim School", so essential in the growth of the classical symphony - belongs to that throng of composers from the classical era that my have met with great success and popularity during their lifetime, but are now viewed as "minor" ones, dwarfed by the shadows of Haydn and Mozart, and then Beethoven.

Giuseppe Torelli, whose native land was Veneto, is deservedly included among the composers who contributed to the renown and success of the Bolognese School, which was undoubtedly one of the keystones of Italian Baroque music, together with the Venetian, Roman and Neapolitan Schools. Torelli’s production that has been handed down to us includes almost 200 works, most of them chamber-music instrumental compositions and orchestral pieces with solo performers. Eight of these works are in print, practically all of them published in Bologna from 1686 onwards.

Frankie Lymon was just 14 years old when he burst onto the scene as leader of an R&B doowop group in the wake of the first flush of rock 'n' roll in the charts during the mid-50s, and the precociously talented teenager, already writing his own songs, made a huge impact on both sides of the Atlantic with his landmark debut hit with The Teenagers "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?". His chart career was telescoped into a few short years, his hits drying up in 1960, and his career declining until his untimely demise in 1968 at the age of 25 from a drug overdose. This 62-track 2-CD set comprises the A & B sides of his singles with The Teenagers and as a solo artist on the Gee and Roulette labels during what was the primary era of his career, along with selected titles from the album "At the London Palladium" and the titles not otherwise released as singles from the album "Rock 'n' Roll" for Roulette. It features all his ten US pop and R&B hits, and his UK chart entries from these years, including the Top 10 hits "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", "Who Can Explain", "I Promise To Remember", "The ABC's Of Love", "Baby Baby" and "Out In The Cold Again". His music represented a fascinating strand of pop/R&B which was a significant part of the musical zeitgeist of the era, and this collection is a substantial showcase for his highly distinctive style and talent.

Expanded three CD edition of this eclectic band's Planet Dog releases featuring their albums Crystal Oscillations and Hunab Ku. Timeshard were a three-piece based in Liverpool, UK. They emerged out of the '80s free festival movement and were regular performers on Liverpool's multimedia 'art happening' scene, playing their unique psychedelic style of improvised electronic music at events that combined music, art and performance. Drawn together out of a shared love of the experimental electronic music of an earlier generation by producers such as Delia Derbyshire, Faust and White Noise, the band eventually started recording some of the music that they had already been playing live together for some years. The results produced an eclectic catalogue of tracks which absorbed the emerging sounds of 'dance music' as a further set of musical reference points and influences. One of the first dance music acts to genuinely play live, the band performed surrounded by a wide array of analogue synths controlled 'hands on' and incorporated live electric guitar and sitar into their colorful and dynamic live performances.
