On the 6th of October 2023, the release date of her third solo album ‘Ghosts’, Hania Rani organised a special album release concert with a string ensemble in a very unique location - Witold Lutosławski's Concert Studio at the Polish Radio in Warsaw.
“Over the years, the spaces of Polish Radio became an important part of my life - both privately and professionally. I visited it for the first time as a student of Chopin University of Music and came back to make my first recordings in late 2018, just before the release of the debut album ‘Esja’. Since then I have been a regular guest.”

Frédéric Chopin was the most famous composer of Polish origin in the history of Western concert music. He was a progressive who revolutionized the harmonic content, the texture, and the emotional quality of the small piano piece, turning light dance forms, nocturnes, and study genres into profound works that were both daring and deeply inward. Born Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin to a French father and a Polish mother, probably on March 1, 1810, he was a native of Zelazowa Wola village west of Warsaw.

This fascinating collection was put together by archivist Christopher Wagner, who assembled these vintage 78 rpms recorded between 1922 and 1959 by all manner of emigrant musicians – each addressing the hopes, dreams, fears and confusions of starting a new life in a new world – into an amazing statement on diversity. Some 50 million people migrated from Europe to America in the 19th century, with millions more coming from the Far East, the West Indies, and points in between, all putting to the test the melting pot theory of American democracy, a theory that is, in many ways, still being tested. Consisting of selections by Irish string bands, Scandinavian folk ensembles, ragged street corner calypso orchestras, conjunto bands and so much more, Stranded in the USA holds a mirror to a vital period in U.S. history, and also sheds light on a nascent recording industry trying anything and everything to reach pocket audiences, a process that is difficult to imagine in a contemporary setting full of corporate multimedia giants more intent on selling culture than reflecting or serving it. This truly is the sound of America singing. Kudos to Trikont Records, a German label, for recognizing the importance of these tracks.

Hera Hyesang Park releases her second Deutsche Grammophon album, that focuses on spiritual, meditative arias and songs. Breathe reflects the soprano’s determination to embrace life, let go of grief and approach every day with gratitude. This personal approach led to a choice of music containing classics by Rossini, Verdi, Massenet and more, besides recent works by contemporary composers.

An orchestral debut, one of numerous song cycles and finally a short yet massive vocalinstrumental work. Years spanning their dates of inception: twelve. Significantly greater span - between the dates of their premieres, interspersed by greater and lesser historical events, most notably the First World War and both Russian revolutions, along with a series of personal trials and reappraisals of the artist's spirituality, as well as bad luck and unfavourable circumstances. What - apart from the author - links these works? Seemingly very little, yet certain common threads can be found. Among them that each of the three works is linked to a degree with some kind of specific literary text. 'Some kind of' that is to say different in each instance. Songs of a Fairy Princess is a clear example of a 'musical setting'. Symphony No. 3 subtitled 'The Song of the Night', has at its core the text of a Persian mystic, yet is fundamentally an instrumental work capable of being performed without voices.

The Best Polish Love Songs… Ever!- is a compilation released by EMI in early 2009. It hypothetically contains the best polish love songs of all the time.

All is emotion and refinement in the interpretations of the soprano Raquel Camarinha and the pianist Yoan Héreau. On this disc, they introduce us to an atypical and little-known sector of Chopin’s output, revealing the beauty of his Polish songs, haunted by the torments of exile and love. By placing them alongside the Lieder der Mignon, which include some of Schubert’s finest settings of Goethe, the duo achieves an extremely rare symbiosis between poetry and music.

Probably the best Polish progressive symphonic group. It was founded in 1976. From the beginning, the musicians had concrete, defined musical interests. Their intention was to play rock music strongly influenced by classical music. Some people call them "Polish Yes" because of the symphonic sound and high, delicate vocal of Pawel Birula. They used to play mainly at the Warsaw student club Riviera-Remont where they had a lot of young fans. In the first half of 80-ies Exodus had a tournee in the USSR and West Germany. They recorded a few TV programs, did many radio recordings and released a few singles that were received very well. But singles don't adequately render the specific character of their music. They had the tendency for creating bigger forms of music and wanted their concerts to become para-theatrical shows…

Artistic prodigy of Vilnius residents Alina Rotaru and Darius Stabinskas, Ensemble Morgaine devotes themselves to the Late Renaissance and Early Baroque repertoire, and especially to the Golden Age of the Polish-Lithuanian-Commonwealth. The programme of their debut CD "Evening song" is concentrated on the musical creation of Waclaw z Szamotul, Mikolaj Gomlka, Krzysztof Klabon and Cyprian Bazylik, with the original texts in Polish, as well as with their first translations into Lithuanian language which appeared in the 17th Century.

The 16th-century composer, Cypriana Bazylik, was born in Sieradz, an important commercial and cultural center at that time. He composed only for a short period of his life, when he was employed in the court band of Prince Mikołaj Radziwiłł in Vilnius. Several of his songs and several psalms have survived and are included on this CD. The music, masterfully presented by the Ensemble Jericho vocal group, is largely an original adaptation of the musicologist and organist Bartosz Izbicki - voices, new harmonies, and sometimes changed rhythmic formulas have been added.

Five centuries, seven languages, and six singers with 35 years of remarkable experience inform this rare collection of choral music. In the world-renowned King's Singers resplendent voices, ancient and modern choral music comes to life with all the blazing immediacy and timeliness of the gospel of the nativity. With 25 pieces of music–ranging from familiar works such as "Coventry Carol" to the obscure Tchaikovsky piece "The Crown of Roses"–the King's Singers move through this hallowed and festive set with the vocal mastery that only three-and-a-half decades of accomplished work together is capable of creating. A number of contemporary carols written in the last century by composers such as John McCabe, Philip Lawson, John Rutter, and others are balanced by pieces by Bach and a host of traditional works. Lawson's "You Are the New Day," performed with a string quartet, stands out as one of the more notable performances. Like most of their music throughout Christmas, it reminds listeners that the art of music often interprets divine aspects gladly realized here on Earth.

Lebowski 2019 is marked by the release of a new studio album, "Galactica". Long 8 years after sublime studio album “Cinematic”. The album contains 9 compositions and is a continuation of the previously chosen musical idea. A rich arrangement full of melodies and musical expressions is a characteristic feature of this music. The recording of the album began 5 years ago. For the recording of this album the quartet invited, among others, the legend of world jazz, the outstanding German trumpeter - Markus Stockhausen who also collaborated with Lebowski on their 2013 single release, "Goodbye My Joy" which spent 17 weeks in the Hit List of the Polish radio station Radiowa Trójka.

SBB is one of the most important Polish bands of the seventies. This band, rightfully listed in the eclectic progressive genre, mainly plays a hybrid of symphonic prog, space/atmospheric prog and fusion.
SBB (Search, Break-up, Build) returns with its 2009 studio album of impassioned progressive rock. Like a hybrid of Pink Floyd and Genesis, SBB’s airy sound is richly textured, with soulful guitar work, fluid keyboards, and gentle yet intricate percussion. Each track on Iron Curtain is bursting with searing emotion and breathtaking technical prowess.

A few art rock tinged exceptions aside, what SBB offers up with "Blue Trance" is a slice of high quality craftsmanship in the melodic rock department, sophisticated soft rock a description that should describe the contents in an easily understandable manner. A CD to pick up if you enjoy timeless classics of the kind classic rock oriented radio stations prefer to fill the airwaves with; more advanced musically, but adhering to that style of music to a much greater extent than progressive rock per se.
