Etched in Blue is a solid, if not exactly definitive, retrospective of Rory Gallagher's career that offers a fine introduction to the Irish blues star.

Rory was just a complete master, and this is as good a place to start as any. I have almost everything of Rory's ever released- and this is just an amazing collection. So many different styles and textures on this album. The solo in 'Cruise On Out' alone is worth the price. Incredible songwriter as well; so many fixate on his astounding guitar abilities that his other talents sometimes go overlooked. But the man wrote fantastic music in a seemingly endless variety of styles. Great hooks and arrangements. Any fans of great guitar work by the likes of Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Blackmore, Clapton, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, etc. will get hooked- and of course Gallagher's beautiful solo acoustic playing is magnificent!

Brilliant album, Cruise On Out is really punchy, "You put on your cat clothes and I will put on mine, together pretty baby we're going to cruise on down the line" Loanshark Blues is pretty awesome - great beat, Unmilitary Two Step is a bit of fun and I don't mean that in an unkind way, its so different and just bombs round the corner like tada! Very unexpected. Alexis is a tribute to the Godfather of British Blues Alexis Korner, Edged in Blue is amazing, the so seductive bluesy intro is brilliant, They Don't Make Them Like You Anymore - it comes as no surprise to me, that I want to be in your vicinity - and as long as people play Rory Gallaghers music we will always be in his vicinity. Rory Gallagher was the finest guitarist ever, no-one comes close to what that man could do with a guitar or any instrument with strings on it - he even played alto sax and harp - and how I would love to get my hands and ears on him playing the harp.
