Limited 10CD box set release from Deep Purple featuring the 2010 remastering. Includes a 120-page booklet, a description, and lyrics. Set includes 10 albums: "Concerto for Group and Orchestra," "Deep Purple in Rock," "Fireball," "Machine Head," "Made in Japan," "Who Do We Think We Are," "Burn," "Stormbringer," "Come Taste the Band," and "Made in Europe."

First impressions - looks great. Artwork doesn’t look like the picture shown by Simon on the DPAS blog. That picture doesn’t do justice to what I have in front of me. The lid of the box is of a velvety material and the design is silver like and is pressed on it. It really looks like an artistic “cover”. Then the opening of the box. First thing a see is a book with a black cover with the same picture as on the front but in grey. The “cover” of the book is of a carton like paper, the inside is normal paper. And as with (all) Japanese editions this one won’t disappoint you. Yes, it’s in Japanese (though some things are in English like the newspaper cuttings and the notes on the pictures). Almost every page has a picture on it, band or otherwise, and again it’s much to my like. 119 pages with lots of information. Then the box with the cd’s (underneath). Again, on the front, the same picture as on the box but now glossy purple and white. Nicely done. On the back it lists the albums that are in: Concerto, In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Live in Japan, Who do we Think we are, Burn, Stormbringer, Come Taste the Band, Made in Europe - the 10 cds released by Mk 2, 3 and 4, so don’t expect something new or unreleased. Opening the box (reveals) another booklet, this time in black and white. The booklet contains all the lyrics in English as well as in Japanese. I Have no clue if they are remastered or not. I can only say that these versions are of a better quality, sound wise that is, then the european/american versions.

Conclusion: The boxset is is nicely done and looks really good. It’s nice for someone who wants all the cd’s from mark 2, 3 and 4 in one boxset. If they are “real” Japanese releases you have the best quality you can have. Can’t say that I miss a lot (except) “Last Concert in Japan” and an English text. I can’t imagine that only Japanese people buy these releases.

Deep Purple - Beyond The Purple (2010) {10CD Box Set, Remastered, Japan}

Deep Purple Mk 1

Deep Purple survived a seemingly endless series of lineup changes and a dramatic mid-career shift from grandiose progressive rock to ear-shattering heavy metal to emerge as a true institution of the British hard rock community; once credited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the globe's loudest band, their revolving-door roster launched the careers of performers including Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, and Ian Gillan.

Deep Purple was formed in Hertford, England, in 1968, with an inaugural lineup that featured guitarist Blackmore, vocalist Rod Evans, bassist Nick Simper, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice. Initially dubbed Roundabout, the group was first assembled as a session band for ex-Searchers drummer Chris Curtis but quickly went their own way, touring Scandinavia before beginning work on their debut LP, Shades of Deep Purple. The most pop-oriented release of their career, the album generated a Top Five American hit with its reading of Joe South's "Hush" but otherwise went unnoticed at home. The Book of Taliesyn followed (in the U.S. only) in 1969, again cracking the U.S. Top 40 with a cover of Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman."

With their self-titled third LP, Deep Purple's ambitions grew, however; the songs reflecting a new complexity and density as Lord's classically influenced keyboards assumed a much greater focus. Soon after the album's release, their American label Tetragrammaton folded, and with the dismissals of Evans and Simper, the band started fresh, recruiting singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover from the ranks of the pop group Episode Six.

The revamped Deep Purple's first album, 1970's Concerto for Group and Orchestra, further sought to fuse rock and classical music. When the project, which was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, was poorly received, Blackmore took creative control of the band, steering it towards a heavier, guitar-dominated approach which took full advantage of Gillan's powerful vocals. The gambit worked; 1970's Deep Purple in Rock heralded the beginning of the group's most creatively and commercially successful period. At home, the album sold over a million copies, with the subsequent non-LP single "Black Night" falling just shy of topping the U.K. pop charts. Released in 1971, Fireball was also a smash, scoring a hit with "Strange Kind of Woman."

Plans to record the follow-up at the Casino in Montreux, Switzerland, were derailed after the venue burned down during a live appearance by Frank Zappa, but the experience inspired Deep Purple's most enduring hit, the AOR staple "Smoke on the Water." The song, featured on the multi-platinum classic Machine Head, reached the U.S. Top Five in mid-1972 and positioned Deep Purple among rock's elite; the band consolidated its status with the 1973 studio follow-up Who Do We Think We Are and the hit "Woman from Tokyo." However, long-simmering creative differences between Blackmore and Gillan pushed the latter out of the group that same year, with Glover soon exiting as well. Singer David Coverdale and bassist/singer Glenn Hughes were recruited for 1974's Burn, and Gillan meanwhile formed a band bearing his own name.

After completing 1974's Stormbringer, Blackmore left Deep Purple as well, to form Rainbow with vocalist Ronnie James Dio; his replacement was ex-James Gang guitarist Tommy Bolin, who made his debut on Come Taste the Band. All the changes clearly took their toll, however, and following a farewell tour, the group dissolved in 1976. Coverdale, meanwhile, went on to form Whitesnake, and Bolin died of a drug overdose later in the year.

The classic lineup of Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Glover, and Paice reunited Deep Purple in 1984 for a new album, the platinum smash Perfect Strangers. The House of Blue Light followed three years later, but as past tensions resurfaced, Gillan again exited in mid-1989. Onetime Rainbow vocalist Joe Lynn Turner was recruited for 1990's Slaves and Masters before Gillan again rejoined to record The Battle Rages On…, an apt title as Blackmore quit the group midway through the supporting tour, to be temporarily replaced by Joe Satriani.

In 1994, Steve Morse took over the guitar slot (fresh from a stint in Kansas), and the revitalized group returned to the studio for 1996's Purpendicular, which proved a success among the Purple faithful. 1998's Abandon followed, as well as a 1999 orchestral performance released the following year as Live at the Royal Albert Hall. Deep Purple was given the box set treatment the same year with the four-disc set Shades: 1968-1998, which collected hits, demos, live takes, and unreleased tracks from throughout the years (touching upon all of Purple's different lineups).

The late '90s/early 2000s saw the release of several other archival releases and collections (Machine Head's 25th anniversary, Friends & Relatives, Rhino's The Very Best Of, and Days May Come and Days May Go: The 1975 California Rehearsals), as well as a slew of DVDs (Total Abandon: Live Australia 1999, In Concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, Bombay Calling, and New Live & Rare). Former member Blackmore also kept himself busy after leaving the band by issuing a single album with his briefly resuscitated outfit Rainbow (1998's Stranger in Us All), before forming the Renaissance-inspired Blackmore's Night with fiancée/vocalist Candice Night. Despite numerous lineup upheavals during their career, Deep Purple remained alive and well in the 21st century.

All over Europe December 1972/January 1973 on Purple Records country prefix + 93915/6 or 93915/16 (2LP). In 1993 a 3-CD-set sneaked out in Japan ("Live in Japan") in remastered quality which included almost all three concerts, the first releases were derived from on Warner Bros WPCR-677/8/9 (3CD). This item was also issued in Europe. Comes 1998 "Made in Japan" saw another rework, this time as an "Anniversary Edition", which basically was the remastered CD plus a second disc including three encores. In Europe released by EMI Records 7243-8-57864-2-6 (2CD). A vinyl edition of this item was also published. To this date (2010) many versions incl. different tracklistings and covers are in circulation. Deep Purple - Beyond The Purple (2010) {10CD Box Set, Remastered, Japan}

Disc 8: Deep Purple - Stormbringer (1974)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Img) + Cue + Log ~ 280 Mb | MP3 CBR320 ~ 89 Mb
WEA International Inc. #WPCR-13931

Stormbringer is the ninth studio album by Deep Purple, released in November 1974. On this album, the soul and funk elements that were only hinted at on Burn are much more prominent. In 1990, the album was remastered and re-released in the US by Metal Blade Records with distribution by Warner Bros. This record has been the object of much renewed interest: Friday Music label released it stateside on July 31, 2007 (along with Made in Europe and Come Taste the Band). It is unclear which tapes were used as a source for this release, but the label's website claims that the album has been digitally remastered (but not expanded). Additionally EMI (Deep Purple's label for much of the world outside the US) worked with Glenn Hughes on a remastered, expanded version of the album (much like the one done with Burn) which includes bonus remixes/alternate takes. Originally due on fall 2007, it was ultimately released on February 23, 2009 as a "35th Anniversary Edition" for the European/international market only. The release has been expanded into a limited edition 2 disc set: the first disc is the full remastered album along with the new remixes, and the second disc is a DVD containing the quadraphonic mix in 4.1 audio as originally released in the USA back in 1975. Once the CD/DVD edition sells out a single CD edition will follow it. A limited double gatefold vinyl edition was also released.

Deep Purple - Beyond The Purple (2010) {10CD Box Set, Remastered, Japan}

Disc 9: Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band (1975)
EAC Rip | FLAC (Img) + Cue + Log ~ 266 Mb | MP3 CBR320 ~ 90 Mb
WEA International Inc. #WPCR-13932

Come Taste the Band is the tenth studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple originally released in October 1975. The album was co-produced and engineered by the band and longtime associate Martin Birch. It is the only Deep Purple studio record featuring Tommy Bolin, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. When Blackmore left the band, many observers and critics assumed that Deep Purple would not continue. It was David Coverdale who asked Jon Lord to keep the band together, and Tommy Bolin was asked to take the guitar slot. A deluxe edition of the album was released in 2010. In 1990, the album was remastered and re-released in the US by Metal Blade Records and distributed by Warner Bros. It was re-released again on the Friday Music label on July 31, 2007 (along with Made in Europe and Stormbringer). While the label's website claims that the album has been digitally remastered, it is unclear which tapes were used as a source for this remastering, but it is unlikely the original master tapes were used, as EMI had repeatedly claimed over the years that the master tapes of this album were missing. In December 2009, the Deep Purple Appreciation Society (DPAS) reported the original multi-track masters had recently surfaced and that an official remastered version with bonus tracks (including remixes by Glenn Hughes and Kevin Shirley) would see a release in 2010. Released on October 25, 2010, the 2-CD Deluxe 35th Anniversary edition includes the original album in remastered form plus a rare US single edit of "You Keep on Moving" on the first disc, and a full album remix and two unissued tracks on the second disc: "Same in LA" a three minute out-take from the final release in 1975, and "Bolin/Paice Jam" a five minute instrumental jam with Ian Paice and Tommy Bolin.

Made in Europe is a live album released by Deep Purple, recorded on the final dates in 1975 on which Ritchie Blackmore was a member of Deep Purple. It was released in 1976 after the group broke up. Made in Europe features songs recorded live 4 April in Graz, Austria, 5 April in Saarbrucken, Germany, and 7 April 1975 in Paris, France with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. According to the liner notes included on Mk III: The Final Concerts, though, the material featured on Made in Europe came, for the most part, from the Saarbrucken show. Additionally, this performance is said to have experienced extensive studio editing and/or overdubbing of crowd noise and applause. Certainly there is a tape-loop of applause, given away by a whistling fan. The songs featured on the album are from Deep Purple's Burn and Stormbringer albums. In 1990, the album was remastered and re-released in the US by Metal Blade Records with distribution by Warner Bros. This record, which had been out of print in the US, was re-released by Friday Music label on July 31, 2007 (along with Stormbringer and Come Taste the Band). While the label's website claims that the album has been digitally remastered, it is unclear which tapes were used as a source for this release.
