Archive's Controlling Crowds has been reissued as a deluxe box set, celebrating their evolution while embracing their roots in trip-hop.

Metroland is what locals call the suburbs surrounding London's Metro rail system. It's also novelist Julian Barnes's metaphor for middle-class complacency, the refuge the film's Christian Bale somehow finds himself in by the late '70s after a hedonistic '60s Parisian interlude spent rebelling against traditional mores. Those are also the geographic and chronological poles Mark Knopfler's score orbits, from wistful title music that edges perilously close to Kenny G-Land to playfully cheesy, tongue-in-cheek cocktail jazz and riff-rock. Along the way Knopfler also pays homage to gypsy jazz-guitar great Django Reinhardt (who's also gratifyingly represented here by two vintage cuts, "Blues Clair" and "Minor Swing") as well as serving up the quiet, melodic melancholy familiar to admirers of Local Hero and Cal. The balance of the collection is devoted to a motley collection of period-pop (The Stranglers' droll "Peaches," Hot Chocolate's "So You Win Again," Elvis Costello's breakthrough "Alison," Knopfler's own "Sultans of Swing," and Francoise Hardy's "Tous les Garcons et les Filles"). Former Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler's second proper solo album (he's remained preoccupied with soundtrack work through the years) is a stirring and considered set of transatlantic blues. The collection is bolstered by contributions from Van Morrison ("The Last Laugh") and James Taylor (the title track), while Knopfler's guitar playing remains fresh and alive as he merges country and folk picking with electric blues. But it's as a writer that he really impresses: "Baloney Again" is a sensitive portrayal of a black gospel outfit in Jim Crow America; the title track is an intriguing distillation of Thomas Pynchon's doorstopper novel, Mason & Dixon; and "Silvertown Blues" is a stirring appreciation of blue-collar endeavor. A lovingly and honestly crafted collection, Sailing to Philadelphia shows Knopfler's talent and commitment remain as strong as ever.

Udo Lindenberg is one of the most influential German rock singers of all time. Developing a unique style mixing straight-ahead rock with occasional jazzy or symphonic influences and witty lyrics, he was the first to show that rock music with German lyrics was acceptable and could even be internationally successful.

Antonietta Stella (15 March 1929 in Perugia – 23 February 2022 in Rome) was an Italian operatic soprano. Her career was overshadowed by the great divas Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi, but she was nevertheless able to achieve great success at La Scala, throughout Italy and at some renowned stages in Europe, in America and Japan. She was considered a great Verdi and Puccini interpreter.

This is a 1972 historic live recording of the only opera written by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla: La Vida Breve. Pedro Lavirgen, Ángeles Gulin, Lucero Tena and Rafael Frübek provide a wonderful performance of this unique masterpiece by de Falla.

Federico Moreno Torroba (3 March 1891 – 12 September 1982) was a Spanish composer, conductor, and theatrical impresario. He is especially remembered for his important contributions to the classical guitar repertoire, becoming one of the leading twentieth-century composers for the instrument.

Celebrating the first anniversary of their latest album, Stereo Mind Game, Daughter announces Live at Middle Farm Studios, a 7-track filmed performance. The session sees the trio of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella return to the intimacy of Middle Farm Studios near Dartmoor, England – where much of Stereo Mind Game was recorded – to perform those songs live for the first time, including the singles ‘Be On Your Way’, ‘Party’ and ‘To Rage’.

B.B. King is not only a timeless singer and guitarist, he's also a natural-born entertainer, and on Live at the Regal the listener is treated to an exhibition of all three of his talents. As I sat down to write these liner notes, I looked at the song list of the album. I noticed that seven out of the nine pieces were written in 2021, the year my mother passed away.
