"Coming Up To Consciousness" is the sixth studio album by Pure Reason Revolution and the third of their Renaissance after the break, which started with "Eupnea" from 2020 and continued with "Above Cirrus" from 2022.

In 1785 Mozart published six string quartets dedicated to Haydn and modeled after Haydn’s pioneering work in expanding and enriching the string quartet form. The six quartets are now considered among the high points of the chamber music repertory. Despite their quality, however, they attracted little public attention at the time of publication, and did nothing to produce what the hard-pressed composer needed more than anything else – commissions for new works.

Borodin: The String Quartet No. 2 is a string quartet in D major written by Alexander Borodin in 1881. It was dedicated to his wife Ekaterina Protopova. Some scholars, such as Borodin's biographer Serge Dianin, suggest that the quartet was a 20th anniversary gift and that it has a program evoking the couple's first meeting in Heidelberg. Of its four movements, the third movement "Notturno" is the most famous.

Notker Balbulus, also known as Notker of St Gall or Notker the Stammerer, was a renowned Benedictine monk at the Abbey of St Gall in Switzerland who made substantial contributions to both the music and literature of his time. These include the Liber ymnorum, which forms an important collection of early musical sequences that celebrate special moments in the liturgical calendar. As the ‘very long melodies’ of the liturgical sequences were a formidable challenge to memorise, Notker created these texts as an aid to holding the melodies within the mind and memory. They are performed here by the acclaimed and insightful Schola Antiqua of Chicago.
