Similarity Search: The Metric Space Approach by Pavel Zezula , Giuseppe Amato , Vlastislav Dohnal , Michal Batko
English | PDF | 2006 | 227 Pages | ISBN : 0387291466 | 12.2 MB

The area of similarity searching is a very hot topic for both research and c- mercial applications. Current data processing applications use data with c- siderably less structure and much less precise queries than traditional database systems. Examples are multimedia data like images or videos that offer query by example search, product catalogs that provide users with preference based search, scientific data records from observations or experimental analyses such as biochemical and medical data, or XML documents that come from hetero- neous data sources on the Web or in intranets and thus does not exhibit a global schema. Such data can neither be ordered in a canonical manner nor meani- fully searched by precise database queries that would return exact matches. This novel situation is what has given rise to similarity searching, also - ferred to as content based or similarity retrieval. The most general approach to similarity search, still allowing construction of index structures, is modeled in metric space. In this book. Prof. Zezula and his co authors provide the first monograph on this topic, describing its theoretical background as well as the practical search tools of this innovative technology.

Self-consistent Quantum-Field Theory and Bosonization for Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (Repost)

Self-consistent Quantum-Field Theory and Bosonization for Strongly Correlated Electron Systems by Rudolf Haussmann
English | PDF | 1999 | 181 Pages | ISBN : 3540658122 | 15.3 MB

This research monograph offers an introduction to advanced quantum field theoretical techniques for many-particle systems beyond perturbation theory. Several schemes for resummation of the Feynman diagrams are described. The resulting approximations are especially well suited for strongly correlated fermion and boson systems.

Curves and Surfaces for Computer Graphics

Curves and Surfaces for Computer Graphics by David Salomon
English | PDF(True) | 2006 | 466 Pages | ISBN : 0387241965 | 4.28 MB

Computer graphics is important in many areas including engineering design, architecture, education, and computer art and animation. This book examines a wide array of current methods used in creating real-looking objects in the computer, one of the main aims of computer graphics.

Numerical Analysis

Numerical Analysis by Peter R. Turner
English | PDF | 1994 | 275 Pages | ISBN : 0333586654 | 26.3 MB

Work Out Numerical Analysis is a course companion and revision aid for students taking their first course in the subject. The author adopts a problem-based approach to develop concepts and reinforces the theory with extensive use of worked examples and numerous unworked problems at the end of each section, a characteristic feature of the College Work Out Series. No prior knowledge of Numerical Analysis is assumed. Early chapters introduce the central principles which are subsequently developed in more detail as the reader progresses through the text.

Number Theory IV: Transcendental Numbers

Number Theory IV: Transcendental Numbers by A. N. Parshin, I. R. Shafarevich
English | PDF | 1998 | 351 Pages | ISBN : 3540614672 | 30.5 MB

This book is a survey of the most important directions of research in transcendental number theory. The central topics in this theory include proofs of irrationality and transcendence of various numbers, especially those that arise as the values of special functions. Questions of this sort go back to ancient times. An example is the old problem of squaring the circle, which Lindemann showed to be impossible in 1882, when he proved that $Öpi$ is a transcendental number. Euler's conjecture that the logarithm of an algebraic number to an algebraic base is transcendental was included in Hilbert's famous list of open problems; this conjecture was proved by Gel'fond and Schneider in 1934.

Computer-Supported Calculus

Computer-Supported Calculus by Adi Ben-Israel
English | PDF | 2002 | 619 Pages | ISBN : 3211829245 | 64.1 MB

This is a new type of calculus book: Students who master this text will be well versed in calculus and, in addition, possess a useful working knowledge of one of the most important mathematical software systems, namely, MACSYMA. This will equip them with the mathematical competence they need for science and engi neering and the competitive workplace. The choice of MACSYMA is not essential for the didactic goal of the book.

From Convexity to Nonconvexity

From Convexity to Nonconvexity by R. P. Gilbert
English | PDF | 2001 | 395 Pages | ISBN : 0792371445 | 32.7 MB

This collection of papers is dedicated to the memory of Gaetano Fichera, a great mathematician and also a good friend to the editors. Regrettably it took an unusual amount of time to bring this collection out. This was primarily due to the fact that the main editor who had collected all of the materials, for this volume, P. D. Panagiotopoulos, died unexpectedly during the period when we were editing the manuscript.

Guide to Numerical Analysis

Guide to Numerical Analysis by Peter R. Turner
English | PDF | 1989 | 218 Pages | ISBN : 0333449479 | 8.4 MB

This book considers some of the most fundamental ideas of mathematical and in particular, numerical computing. These in turn form the basis of most of the techniques of scientific computing which are widely used in almost every branch of scientific work and in business and economic applications.
