A Comprehensive Approach to Problem Solving: Analysis, Containment, and Permanent Corrective Action

This book aims to provide with some approaches for lessening the unknowns of the FE methods of unsteady PDEs. It provides a very detailed theoretical foundation of finite element (FE) and mixed finite element (MFE) methods in the first 2 chapters, and then Chapter 3 provides the FE and MFE methods to solve unsteady partial differential equations (PDEs). In the following 2 chapters, the principle and application of two proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) methods are introduced in detail.

This book, the second of two volumes, presents significant applications for understanding modern analysis. It empowers young researchers with key techniques and applications to explore various subfields of this broad subject and introduces relevant frameworks for immediate deployment.

In this paper we shall discuss the construction of formal short-wave asymp­ totic solutions of problems of mathematical physics. The topic is very broad. It can somewhat conveniently be divided into three parts: 1. Finding the short-wave asymptotics of a rather narrow class of problems, which admit a solution in an explicit form, via formulas that represent this solution. 2. Finding formal asymptotic solutions of equations that describe wave processes by basing them on some ansatz or other. We explain what 2 means. Giving an ansatz is knowing how to give a formula for the desired asymptotic solution in the form of a series or some expression containing a series, where the analytic nature of the terms of these series is indicated up to functions and coefficients that are undetermined at the first stage of consideration. The second stage is to determine these functions and coefficients using a direct substitution of the ansatz in the equation, the boundary conditions and the initial conditions. Sometimes it is necessary to use different ansiitze in different domains, and in the overlapping parts of these domains the formal asymptotic solutions must be asymptotically equivalent (the method of matched asymptotic expansions). The basis for success in the search for formal asymptotic solutions is a suitable choice of ansiitze. The study of the asymptotics of explicit solutions of special model problems allows us to "surmise" what the correct ansiitze are for the general solution.

This book contains all the exercises and solutions of Serge Lang's Complex Analy­ sis. Chapters I through VITI of Lang's book contain the material of an introductory course at the undergraduate level and the reader will find exercises in all of the fol­ lowing topics: power series, Cauchy's theorem, Laurent series, singularities and meromorphic functions, the calculus of residues, conformal mappings and har­ monic functions. Chapters IX through XVI, which are suitable for a more advanced course at the graduate level, offer exercises in the following subjects: Schwarz re­ flection, analytic continuation, Jensen's formula, the Phragmen-LindelOf theorem, entire functions, Weierstrass products and meromorphic functions, the Gamma function and the Zeta function. This solutions manual offers a large number of worked out exercises of varying difficulty. The aim of this volume is to present some new developments and ideas in partial differential equations and mathematical analysis, including spectral analysis and boundary value problems for PDE, harmonic analysis, inequalities, integral equations, and applications. This book is a collection of short summaries of reports from lectures delivered at Tbilisi Analysis & PDE seminars and workshops. In particular, it contains some applications and several open questions aimed at inspiring further research. The volume contains 21 research articles.
