Pharmaceutical Microscopy by Robert Allen Carlton
English | PDF | 2011 | 332 Pages | ISBN : 1441988300 | 9.8 MB

Microscopy plays an integral role in the research and development of new medicines. Pharmaceutical Microscopy describes a wide variety of techniques together with numerous practical applications of importance in drug development. The first section presents general methods and applications with an emphasis on the physical science aspects. Techniques covered include optical crystallography, thermal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry, microspectroscopy (infrared and Raman), and particle size and shape by image analysis. The second section presents applications of these techniques to specific topics of pharmaceutical interest, including studies of polymorphism, particle size and shape analysis, and contaminant identification. Pharmaceutical Microscopy is designed for those scientists who must use these techniques to solve pharmaceutical problems but do not need to become expert microscopists. Consequently, eachsection has exercises designed to teach the reader how to use and apply the techniques in the book. Although the focus is on pharmaceutical development, workers in other fields such as food science and organic chemistry will also benefit from the discussion of techniques and the exercises.

Principles of Magnetic Resonance

Principles of Magnetic Resonance by Charles P. Slichter
English | PDF | 1990 | 662 Pages | ISBN : 3540501576 | 50 MB

The first edition of this book was written in 1961 when I was Morris Loeb Lecturer in Physics at Harvard. In the preface I wrote: "The problem faced by a beginner today is enormous. If he attempts to read a current article, he often finds that the first paragraph refers to an earlier paper on which the whole article is based, and with which the author naturally assumes familiarity. That reference in turn is based on another, so the hapless student finds himself in a seemingly endless retreat. I have felt that graduate students or others beginning research in magnetic resonance needed a book which really went into the details of calculations, yet was aimed at the beginner rather than the expert. " The original goal was to treat only those topics that are essential to an understanding of the literature. Thus the goal was to be selective rather than comprehensive. With the passage of time, important new concepts were becoming so all-pervasive that I felt the need to add them. That led to the second edition, which Dr. Lotsch, Physics Editor of Springer-Verlag, encouraged me to write and which helped launch the Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences. Now, ten years later, that book (and its 1980 revised printing) is no longer available. Meanwhile, workers in magnetic resonance have continued to develop startling new insights.

Beam-Foil Spectroscopy: Volume 1 Atomic Structure and Lifetimes

Beam-Foil Spectroscopy: Volume 1 Atomic Structure and Lifetimes by Ivan A. Sellin, David J. Pegg
English | PDF | 1976 | 461 Pages | ISBN : 1461343429 | 35.8 MB

The appreciable evolution of the nearly teenaged branch of atomic and molecular physics called beam foil spectroscopy is clearly depicted in the present volumes, which are devoted to publication of presentations at the Fourth International Conference on Beam Foil Spectroscopy and Heavy Ion Atomic Physics Symposium. The transition from childhood to adolescence parallels human experience in that diffusion of interests and interactions beyond the confines of the original family has most certainly occurred. The pre-occupation with techniques and their develop ment has been largely replaced by interest in the physics of the widest possible array of atomic and molecular physics experiments, in which spectroscopic study (visible, UV, XUV, X-ray, electron) of collisional interactions of fast beams is the unifying theme. The description "accelerator-based atomic physics" is perhaps more representative of the subject today than is the original, beam-foil spectroscopy," since so many experiments have nothing to do with foils, and furthermore, employ spectroscopy mainly as an incidental tool. What, then distinguishes beam-foil spectro scopy from overlapping fields of atomic collisions physics?

Interfacial Phenomena in Adhesion and Adhesive Bonding

Interfacial Phenomena in Adhesion and Adhesive Bonding by Shin Horiuchi, Nao Terasaki, Takayuki Miyamae
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2023 | 368 Pages | ISBN : 9819944554 | 241.4 MB

This book reviews the recent research achievements of the investigation of interfacial phenomena in polymer/polymer and polymer/metal joint interfaces with the state-of-the-art analytical techniques not previously used in the field of adhesion and bonding. Adhesion performance is determined not only by the two-dimensional interfaces but also by a three-dimensional (3D) region having different properties and structural characteristics that extends into the bulk materials. In this book, the authors also discuss in detail the bonding mechanism by characterizing such 3D regions called “interphase”. The book is of great interest to researchers and engineers devoted to adhesion science and technology.
