BackgroundFor many years, hospital pharmacists have played a pivotal role in advancing pharmacy practice worldwide. In 2015, the International Pharmaceutical Federation's (FIP) Hospital Pharmacy Section introduced the revised Basel Statements, outlining the vision for the future of hospital pharmacy practice. The Basel Statements aim to establish a unified vision for hospital pharmacy practice across different regions and cultures. They have been utilized to evaluate and enhance hospital pharmacy practices globally, including in China, Europe, the United States, Canada, Uruguay, the Western Pacific Region, and more recently, Uganda.Basel Statements encompass six main themes that form the foundation of excellence in hospital pharmacy: 1) Procurement, 2) Influences on Prescribing, 3) Preparation and Delivery, 4) Administration, 5) Monitoring of Medicines Use, and 6) Human Resources, Training, and Development. These areas empower hospital pharmacists to enhance care quality and prioritize patient safety.The primary aim of the present course is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the Basel Statements, their relevance, and their practical application in hospital pharmacy settings. By focusing on the revised 65 Basel Statements, the course aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, enabling pharmacists to deliver excellence in patient care, medication management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
