Initially announced January 24, 2020, the fan club gift from U2.com is a full length video release of U2’s final performance on the Experience and Innocence tour. The gift was made available both in a DVD format and as an online 4K stream via U2.Com for the length of a subscription. The DVD was already in production when the announcement was made, and had already been submitted for ratings.The video is the full concert, running two hours and 20 minutes, and the description on the website says it covers “from the unforgettable opening burst of ‘The Blackout’ and ‘Lights of Home’.” The previously aired television special from this Berlin footage ran 75 minutes and cut out the first act of the concert. The fan club release contains the entire show.

Sir Neville Marriner Rivaled only by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Neville Marriner was one of the most important of the early figures who spearheaded the reawakening of modern interest in Baroque and early Classical music. In the 1950s, he founded Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the first British early music ensemble to find a large international audience. Marriner has since become one of the most popular conductors in the world, acclaimed for his interpretations of composers from Bach to Britten. Marriner was first taught the violin as a child, by his father, and attended the Royal College of Music, beginning at age thirteen.

Herbert von Karajan was the most renowned conductor to emerge from Europe in the post-World War II era – and through fortuitous timing throughout his career, and in spite of controversy that dogged his early years, he was the most recorded conductor of the 20th century, and is likely to remain one of the most visible (and biggest-selling) conductors well into the 21st century. REHEARSAL BROADCAST FOR BOWIE S 50th BIRTHDAY BASH His other milestone birthdays had passed privately, but for his 50th Bowie threw himself a celebration at Madison Square Garden; it was simulcast via pay-per-view television. As a consolation prize to Britain, Bowie, Gail Ann Dorsey and Reeves Gabrels cut ten songs during rehearsals to be played on a Radio One special to air on the same day. Bowie opened with Little Wonder dug into Hearts Filthy Lesson . Some guests were a subtle nod at Tin Machine s influences: Frank Black, who came on to sing Scary Monsters and Fashion and Sonic Youth, who bloodied up I m Afraid of Americans . Dave Grohl added munitions to Seven Years in Tibet and Hallo Spaceboy . Robert Smith, the most inspired guest choice, sang The Last Thing You Should Do and an oddly heartening Quicksand (Smith had lobbied to sing Young Americans ). Billy Corgan helped close out the show like a kid who d won a contest. For some fans, this immersion in the present tense was disappointing. The biographer David Buckley made a case for the prosecution: Playing live with Iggy Pop for the first time in 20 years. Playing live with Robert Fripp and Brian Eno for the first time ever. Bringing on Nile Rodgers for Let s Dance. The only person who d been invited that night who actually hailed from Bowie s past, who had been Bowie s influence, was Lou Reed. At the end of the show, Bowie made a concession: he came out alone with his 12-string acoustic guitar and sang Space Oddity . I don t know where I m going from here, he said. But I promise I won t bore you. Then he was off for another year of tours and TV spots. He d dodged the snare, at least this time.

The great Julian Cannonball Adderley rose to prominence in the hard-bop era of the 1950's and 60's. After a successful stint with Miles Davis's sextet, including being featured on the seminal Davis records 'Milestones' and 'Kind of Blue', Adderley formed his own quintet with brother Nat on trumpet and cornet, and soon became the driving force behind the soul-jazz movement of the 1960's and 70's. No one would have guessed that the 46-year-old DownBeat Jazz Hall of Famer was in the last few months of his life when he stepped on stage at Montreal's In Concert Club on May 3, 1975. And nothing about the performance suggests that the hard bop sax legend was anything but at the top of his game. The 6-track set includes the Grammy Hall of Fame inductee hit tune Mercy Mercy Mercy, with Adderley's brother Nat on trumpet. The lineup for the quintet here is Cannonball Adderley (alto and soprano sax); Nat Adderley (trumpet); Michael Wolff (piano); Roy McCurdy (drums, percussion) and Walter Booker (bass). Originally released in 1977 on Dobre Records this LP has been unavailable on vinyl for over 40 years and makes its return pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Features liner notes by music historian Cary Ginell who wrote the book Walk Tall: The Music and Life of Cannonball Adderley. Notes include interviews with quintet members Michael Wolff and Roy McCurdy.

Ain't No Sunshine is a previously unissued concert recordings from one of the greasiest and funkiest Hammond B3 organists of all-time, Brother Jack McDuff. The album features his then working band saxphonists Leo Johnson and Dave Young, guitarist Vinnie Corrao and drummer Ron Davis.

When my Producer and long-time friend Pat Philips Stratta called to tell me that I had received the 2023 Living Masters award from the SmallsLIVE Foundation, I felt so honored! I was particularly pleased because it also gave me the opportunity to play at Mezzrow for two nights and record a CD in the afternoon of day three. For the first time in many years, I chose to change my Trio format and go back to Piano, Bass and Drums. For the last 20 years, my trio was piano, bass and guitar inspired by the great trios of Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson. That requires everything to be arranged and lots of rehearsals, and I’ve been living in Ojai, California for the last 30 years, so rehearsals are not easy. This occasion gave me the opportunity to come East, and just kick back and play with my long-time colleague, Jay Leonhart on bass, and a musician I deeply admire (new to my trio) Dennis Mackrel on drums. For repertoire, I decided to choose mostly historical jazz standards that I’ve always loved, but I couldn’t stay away from arranging or guitar totally, so I invited Guitarist Roni Ben-Hur to be my special guest.
