The short-lived Houston, Texas late-'60s psych band Moving Sidewalks are generally best known as one of the first bands of Billy Gibbons, who went on to fame in biker-blues arena rockers ZZ Top. In their day, Moving Sidewalks recorded their sole LP, Flash, as well as a few singles of psychedelic blues-rock, before evaporating into garage rock history and seeing Gibbons off to radically different prospects. The Complete Moving Sidewalks collects all known studio work by the band as well as demos and unreleased tracks from the Coachmen, the Gibbons-fronted predecessor that came just before Moving Sidewalks. As an album, Flash is very much a product of its time. Gibbons' vocals, guitar playing, and songwriting are all under a heavy Hendrix influence, borrowing the stoned blues side of Jimi's nonchalant playing and electric hippie persona.

Magic Box (also known by its cover title as The Loved Ones' Magic Box) is the debut and sole album from Australian rock band The Loved Ones. It was released in Australia on the W&G label in 1967. The album was reissued in 1985 on Glenn A. Baker's label Raven Records with a different track order and bouns tracks. However, when the album was remastered only the left hand channel of the stereo master was used. This means some instruments and an intro to 'Sad Dark Eyes' (an electric piano in the right hand channel) are missing on the Raven Records release. The 1995 Karussell compact disc uses the Raven Records master as its source, meaning the true stereo or mono version of Magic Box has never been released on compact disc. Both cd reissues included a Wild Cherries rehearsal take of 'Without You', which has been incorrectly attributed to the Loved Ones. The album was included in the 2010 book, '100 Best Australian Albums'.

A Full Spoon of Seedy Blues is the fourth album by the American garage rock band, the Seeds, credited to the Sky Saxon Blues Band, and released on GNP Crescendo in November 1967.
With liner notes by Muddy Waters, a cover of Water's tune "Plain Spoken," and two titles written by Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, the trend-conscious Sky Saxon takes his Seeds into a world far removed from punk and garage rock. This may be the only album that doesn't contain a variation of the "Pushin' Too Hard" riff, and that might not be a good thing. Six minutes and four seconds of Sky Saxon's "Cry Wolf" is too long for blues this lightweight. Saxon plays a cool harp, but his Sam the Sham-style vocals are not going to cause Buddy Guy any sleepless nights, nor would George Guy find them amusing…

With their unlikely but fascinating mix of arty concepts and raw sounds, the White Stripes were among the leaders of the early-2000s garage rock revival and helped define the sound of 21st century rock as the decade progressed. Jack and Meg White's clever use of limitations – from their lineup to their instrumentation to their red, white, and black color scheme – maximized their creativity, allowing them to bring a surprising number of facets to their seemingly back-to-basics approach.

"Do You Want Head? Blow Your Mind with the Head Shop Album!" screams a commercial add in New York's Screw magazine in 1969. The band had garagy roots and evolved from Household Sponge to The Head Shop. Based in NYC, this psychedelic underground project had a unique sound, charcterized by soulful vocals, flying Hammond organ, fuzzy bass, distorted lead guitars, lots of percussive and weird rhythm instruments, plus several unexpected stereo experiments. A highlight for sure is their haunted interpretation of Bobby Hebb's 'Sunny'! Conceptional, but also musically there are some parallels to Joe Meek. Another major influence is The Beatles' experimental period, not just because of the cover version of 'Revolution.' Larry Coryell features as "wailing" guest musician on the track, 'I Feel Love Comin' On'…

My brother Dan and I (The Kessel Bros., 2nd generation members of The Wrecking Crew) met Kim around the early days of the Runaway's. He was a very cool guy with a quick wit and special vocabulary. We ended up doing several projects and recordings with Kim. We helped with his girl group the Orchids and the Vampires from Outer Space Album. During this period my brother and I were doing our own projects (involving The Ramones, Blondie, Rodney Bingenheimer, the Go Go's, and Co-Productions with Brian Wilson and the Honeys/American Spring) and working as second generation Wrecking Crew members on Phil Spector records. This included recordings with John Lennon, Cher, Harry Nilsson, Dion, Leonard Cohen with Bob Dylan, the Ramones, and Celine Dion amongst others.

After the tremendous reaction to our exhaustive Sacramento '60s anthology the Ikon Records Story, Frantic Records is proud to present an equally-rockin' 30-track bumper bundle of classy '60s punk from California's capital, 1965-67, the result of a decade of sleuthing, So Cold!!! spotlights some of the best vintage punk, folk-rock and garage pop you are likely to hear, all from the raging suburban punk scene that engulfed Sacramento and it's environs during the halcyon daze of the mid-1960s. Though So Cold!!! features several rare single sides that have not appeared on CD before, the vast majority of this power-packed collection is previously unreleased. The program ranges from the city's big groups like the Marauders, the Fugitives and Gear One, to obscure but dynamic punkers from the Squires, Sel-Sync and Mods. A major coup was locating the rare handful of recordings by local legends Plague, Ltd. And the Heard. Once again we feature detailed liner notes from '60s punk expert Alec Palao, plus a parade of eye-popping pix n' visuals. So Cold!!! is one garage compilation that is definitely not to be missed!

With this volume we celebrate 20 years since Fading Yellow volume 1 cd. Fading Yellow created a genre all of its own and praised by many including Bob Stanley. "It’s twenty years since I walked into a record shop in Stockholm and heard Disraeli’s mournful, gently thunderous What Will The New Day Bring. I asked the owner what he was playing and he told me it was Fading Yellow volume 2. He played snatches of volume one. I bought both on the spot. Here was a new subset of music which I had always loved, without thinking of it as a subset. Fading Yellow magically bound the softer end of psych with singer-songwriters and beat groups; what they had in common - aside from woodwinds, harpsichord and cellos - was minor chords. The heart of Fading Yellow is rarely sad but always melancholy. Twenty volumes in and it still sounds magical." – Bob Stanley 2022 The usual high quality 45’s musically, this time from the USA and, as always, all the tracks doing their first entrance on any compilation. Groups including Magic Ring, Second Helping, The Mother Love, Luv Birds, The News etc. All late 60’s popsike and other delights. Don’t miss out on this wonderful volume.

Originally recorded at Lisa Stansfield’s Gracieland Studios in between December 2002 and January 2003 with producer Grant Showbiz. The subtitle is explained by the fact that the tracks were originally scheduled for release in April 2003 under the title ‘Country on the Click’. Promotional copies were sent out and three of the new songs were previewed in the band’s 23rd Peel Session, but Mark. E Smith was unhappy with the mix and decided it needed further work.

Basic Blues Magoos (1968) – the final long-player with the lineup of Ralph Scala (keyboards), Ronnie Gilbert (bass), Emil "Peppy" Thielheim (guitar), Mike Esposito (lead guitar) and Geoffrey Daking (drums) – is arguably their best and easily most progressive outing. Perhaps this can partially be credited to the combo's retreat from creating in the comparatively uninspired environs of a studio. Instead, they essentially cocooned themselves into their legendary Bronx, New York digs, which at one time had been inhabited by none other than Gram Parsons. The autonomy paid off, as did their sizable influence from the U.K.-derived mod and freakbeat scenes, kick-started no doubt by a recent tour with the Who.

Despite the group's limited commercial success, there have been several Sorrows CD compilations. Why should you get this one, whether you already have Sorrows collections or are looking for the best Sorrows anthology? Well, the 30 tracks do include everything essential from their mid-'60s prime, including both sides of their seven 1965-1967 singles; the stereo version of their 1965 album Take a Heart, which included a couple songs not on those 45s, as well as slightly different, re-recorded versions of some numbers that also appeared on singles, and four outtakes. That in fact totals up to almost everything the Sorrows recorded in the mid-'60s, not merely their best tracks, though it does omit some foreign language versions and outtakes that have appeared on previous compilations. More importantly, however, it has a 16-page booklet that's amply illustrated with vintage photos and clippings…

With virtually no choruses and just two repeated lyrics in forty minutes, GBV is audacious and unafraid. One of the most fully realized works that Guided By Voices has created, Nowhere To Go But Up showcases an expert rock band at the top of their game. The band is on a roll and unstoppable. Following their monumental 40th Anniversary Celebration in Dayton, Ohio, GBV begins their fifth decade with a bang!

The post-garage-punk and psychedelic power pop anomaly Chemtrails return with their upcoming third album – their boldest yet with a more danceable and rhythm-driven style, armed with their trademark fuzzy guitars and playfully sinister melodies. Working with producer Margo Broom (Fat White Family, Goat Girl) this time around, the group has traded in their DIY approach for a more hi-fi studio sound, remaining just as raw and wild as ever, but with a whole new level of focus and intensity.
