On November 11, 2003, Diamanda Galás released two albums, ending a five-year recording hiatus with a bang. Both are solo live recordings and present two very different sides of her. La Serpenta Canta showcased her song-based material (mostly blues). Defixiones: Will and Testament, Orders From the Dead is more typical of her operatic works of the 1990s.

Composed in 2020 during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the first incarnation of the work was played as a sound installation at the Kapellen Leprosarium (Leper's Sanctuary) in Hanover, Germany. This sanctuary was built around 1250 and served as a quarantine for those who suffered from the plague and leprosy in the Middle Ages.

Guilty Guilty Guilty is a live performance album by avant-garde musician Diamanda Galás, released on 1 April 2008 by Mute Records. The much-anticipated collection of tragic and homicidal love songs, most of which were recorded at 'Diamanda's Valentines Day Massacre' at the Knitting Factory, New York City, February 14, 2006. Guilty Guilty Guilty is her 17th album, the first since 2003's Defixiones, Will And Testament and La Serpenta Canta. Featured on the album are her much acclaimed reinterpretations of Ralph Stanley's reaper song, 'O Death'; O. V. Wright's '8 Men and 4 Women'; 'Long Black Veil'; 'Time (Interlude)' sung by Timi Yuro; Tracy Nelson's 'Down So Low'; her signature rendition of 'Autumn Leaves'; and the favorite 'Heaven Have Mercy'.
