Billy Boy Arnold is one of the last of the legendary Chicago Blues harmonica players. In addition to his solo releases, he recorded with Bo Diddley in the Fifties and has been covered by David Bowie, The Yardbirds and The Blasters. Produced by Duke Robillard and backed by stellar musicians, including the Roomful Of Blues Horns, this release showcases a brilliant artist still in his prime. Billy Boy was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2013. "Billy Boy Arnold's talent as a songwriter, singer, harp master and blues historian is still in full swing and here, on this album, he demonstrates his flair and love for many different facets of the blues. This recording is surely a remarkable achievement."

Indeed he is. Recorded in Los Angeles with a crew of young acolytes offering spot-on backing (guitarists Zach Zunis and Rick Holmstrom acquit themselves well), Arnold eases back into harness with a remake of "I Wish You Would" before exposing some fine new originals (the Chuck Berry-styled rocker "Move on Down the Road" is a stomping standout) and an homage to his old mentor Sonny Boy (a romping "Shake the Boogie").

Blues Hall of Fame inductee Walter Davis was a prolific and innovative artist who played an influential role in the creation of the pre-war Blues scene. On The Walter Davis Project a diverse collection of Blues Legends pay tribute to the man and his music, including Billy Boy Arnold, Jimmy McCracklin, Charlie Musselwhite, Christian Rannenberg and Keith Dunn, and Henry Townsend with Bob Corritore. The 17 track collection of Walter Davis' compositions include R&B Legend Jimmy McCracklin's final recordings as well as an interview with Mr. McCracklin, who was taught piano as a child by Walter Davis, by producer Christian Rannenberg, plus 2 tracks from Charlie Musselwhite and an unreleased track from 2002 by Henry Townsend with Living Blues Award winner Bob Corritore. 2012 Blues Hall of Fame member Billy Boy Arnold contributes 9 tracks. The Walter Davis Project album will be treasured by both Blues music lovers and collectors. "To me, Walter Davis's singing, piano playing and lyrics are really deep blues…about as deep as you can get. His lyrics are true blues poetry. His sound has such a deep deep feeling to it. It does what only deep blues can do: it touches your heart and comforts you in a poignant way." – Charlie Musselwhite

In his younger days, Billy Boy Arnold was captivated by the recordings of Big Bill Broonzy. He even met the pre-war generation bluesmaster and asked him if he would play on his recording session (what Big Bill denied).
The 15 songs that Billy Boy selected for this CD, in collaboration with producer and guitarist Eric Noden, were ones that Big Bill recorded between the late 1930s and the early 1950s. Even though they represent only a small fraction of the several hundred songs Big Bill wrote over his thirty-year career, they showcase his versatility as a songwriter.
The talented musicians who have chosen to pay tribute to Big Bill have accomplished this successfully by playing in the spirit of his work rather than trying to reproduce it precisely as it was recorded…

Thank heaven Norman Dayron had the presence of mind to capture these sides by Chicago pianist Johnny Jones when he played at the Fickle Pickle in 1963 - as little as remains on tape of his talents as a singer, we're eternally indebted to Dayron's actions. Jones's insinuating vocals and bedrock 88s are abetted by harpist Billy Boy Arnold on these performances, and that's it - he had no rhythm section to fall back on.

In 1997, Dave Alvin – former guitarist and songwriter with the Blasters, and one of the leading advocates of classic blues and R&B on the West Coast roots rock scene – played a special show in Long Beach, California, where he was joined by three very special guests. The fabled Texas fiddler and guitarist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Chicago harmonica master Billy Boy Arnold, and San Francisco-born blues guitarist Joe Louis Walker all sat in with Alvin that evening, making for a very eventful evening for fans of blues and American roots music. The show was captured on tape, and Live in Long Beach 1997 allows listeners to hear Alvin mix it up on-stage with a few of his heroes. Songs include "Barn Burning", "Long White Cadillac", "I Wish You Would", "Chains of Love", "Jolie Blon", "Wabash Cannonball", and more.

Classic 1977 London Sessions featuring Billy Boy Arnold w/ The Groundhogs. It happened during the autumn in London in 1977. Billy Boy was touring Europe and entrepreneur Peter Shertser came up with the idea that Billy Boy should record an album with The Groundhogs at Pathway Studios, North London. Billy Boy gelled immediately with the white boy's blues rock of The Groundhogs and jammed with the band until they were tight and ready to record the album. And what an album with Billy Boy's singing and harmonica and Tony S McPhee's slide technique and outstanding licks. As one reviewer said back in1979 "Briefly and simply, this album contains some of the best blues of the 70's and some of Billy Boy Arnold's best music ever."

One of the greatest of all Chicago bluesmen, vocalist, guitarist and harp player Bill Boy Arnold made his recording debut in 1952 and played harmonica on Bo Diddley's massive 1955 hit, "I'm A Man." A prolific songwriter, Arnold's songs have been covered by many artists including the influential English blues rock group, The Yardbirds. Arnold's career has spanned well over 50 years and he still continues to write and record new material. Presented here is Arnold's classic 1979 release, "Checkin' It Out," featuring nearly all original compositions, except for a pair of Little Walter tunes. The band is Billy Boy Arnold (vocals, harmonica); Tony S. McPhee (guitar); Wilbur Campbell (drums); Alan Fish (bass).

At this point in his career, harmonica legend Billy Boy Arnold could just coast on his Chicago blues laurels, rehashing his old tunes and tricks whenever he decides to cut a new album. But fortunately, Arnold doesn't buy into shortcuts, and neither does his producer for this session, Duke Robillard. On Boogie 'n' Shuffle, Arnold really lets it rip – not only in the John Lee Williamson tradition he's well-known for, but also in the R&B traditions of Ray Charles and Jimmy McCracklin. Robillard's band is certainly up to the task, seamlessly switching from flashy soul grooves ("Home in Your Heart") to lazy Jimmy Reed-styled boogies ("Come Here Baby") to Delta blues barrelhouse ("Greenville").

Talk about a comeback. After too many years away from the studio, Chicago harpist Billy Boy Arnold returned to action in a big way with two fine albums for Alligator: 1993's Back Where I Belong and 1995's Eldorado Cadillac. Retaining his youthful demeanor despite more than four decades of blues experience, Arnold's wailing harp and sturdy vocals remained in top-flight shape following the lengthy recording layoff.
