One of the most renowned and uncompromising entities working in 21st century avant-garde Arab-Levantine art and music, Jerusalem In My Heart presents a new album of vital and haunting electronics and electroacoustics, framed by founder and producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh’s spoken and sung Arabic, buzuk-playing and sound design. Qalaq is the most distilled, variegated and finely wrought Jerusalem In My Heart album to date – featuring a different guest/collaborator on every track, yet as cohesive, emotionally resonant, sonically adventurous and narratively powerful as any release in JIMH’s celebrated discography. Guests across the album's 13 tracks include Moor Mother, Tim Hecker, Lucrecia Dalt, Greg Fox, Beirut, Alanis Obomsawin, Rabih Beaini and many more.

Emma Ruth Rundle’s second installment in her Electric Guitar series, EG2: Dowsing Voice, is like the soundtrack to a film that hasn’t been made. The mostly instrumental record follows her on a trip to the Welsh coast and down a magical well into the waters of nature, myth and the Old Golds - by way of her improvised music. The 40 plus minute album was sewn together from recordings channeled during her month-long solo journey in the early days of 2020 and completed before 2021’s critically lauded album Engine of Hell was even written.

The title of the new album says it all: Opus, the new release of Danish music project Afenginn, has indeed become a major work, consisting of four movements - just like a classical symphony. Within those pieces, an unusual world of sounds unfolds, largely unspoilt by traditional patterns and structures. Influenced by folk, world music and classical music, Afenginn have created their own individual style, acoustic, innovative, dynamic and doleful, which has brought them a wealth of awards and grants in their home country as well as worldwide appreciation and success. Afenginn was founded in 2002 in Copenhagen by musicology student Kim Rafael Nyberg from Finland and Rune Kofoed from Denmark.

I found it ok at first but a couple of months into lockdown I started to feel quite down about all the unplayed gigs and lost moments, a bit more anxious than usual and pretty disconnected. So I wanted to make something small (but proper) to try and reconnect. I hope this collection might be something hopeful, or at least a useful distraction.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Anderson has built up an intriguing catalog of work ranging from the improvisatory Evolutionary Jass Band and country-folk outfit the Dolly Ranchers to her own eclectic solo guitar albums that meld facets of American traditional styles with minimalism, drone, and electronic music.

LEYA is the Brooklyn based duo of harpist Marilu Donovan (Eartheater, Aerial East, Julie Byrne) and violinist / vocalist Adam Markiewicz (PC Worship, The Dreebs). With Flood Dream, LEYA subvert the academic and classical connotations of their instruments, instead reframing them in a DIY punk ethos and favoring intuition over pedagogy to inform their creative process. Their arrangements bridge instances of baroque ornamentation and blocks of harmonic density with stretches of fugue state-inducing confusion built over dreary standing tones and repeated dissonant intervals. Flood Dream includes a few tracks from their feature-length score of Brooke Candy’s queer pornagraphic film “I Love You” (made for PornHub’s Visionaries Director’s Club) and follows their debut album, The Fool. The lead single and album opener, which features experimental pop vocalist/composer GABI, hints at the expanded sound of Flood Dream which was written during an extensive touring over four months in the US, Canada & Europe.
