Keb' Mo's 1995 Grammy-winning eponymous debut firmly lodged the Los Angeles-born singer-guitarist in the contemporary blues pantheon. His sophomore effort, Just Like You, is slick in comparison to the virtuosic, bare-bones Keb' Mo', but it's nevertheless an irresistible and accomplished album. While songs such as "Perpetual Blues Machine" and "You Can Love Yourself" are classic Mo', with their canny lyrics and facile slide and acoustic guitar licks, the sapfest "Just Like You" (with guests Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne) and the clichéd "The Action" are hard to stomach. Toward the end of the disc, however, the gospel-laced "Hand It Over" and folksy "Momma, Where's My Daddy" restore the faith, displaying once again Mo's marvelous talent for wrenching the heartstrings with simply his voice and soulful steel-guitar manipulations.

The full title of this disc is "The Essence of Viennese Music - opera, operetta and dance..". Rather cumbersome, but a fair description of the contents. It is played by an orchestra from Linz, Austria's third city, with a conductor (Peter Guth) who specialises in music of Johann Strauss II and a pair of excellent young soloists in soprano Edith Lienbacher and tenor Herbert Lippert. While its programme contains many of the expected Viennese lollipops, it goes beyond the merely predictable, and the producers have come up with a diverse and very entertaining concert.

"Mysteria" is a magnificent triple cd by M.A.S.S., the artistic name of Stephan Kaske, a founding member of the mythical band Mythos, created in 1969. This album joins Space Music with Synth-Pop in a very imaginative manner, which proves why the artist succeeded in becoming a musical visionary at a time when shaping risky concepts of sound was by no means as technologically easy as it is now.

Trumpeter and crooner Till Bronner was the most famous German jazz musician of his generation, updating traditional bebop sensibilities via elements of contemporary R&B and hip-hop. That Summer, his 2004's album, features the pop-jazz artists smooth, laid-back horn style. Included are such originals as "Your Way to Say Goodbye", and "Ready or Not" as well as Brönner's take on the standards "Bein' Green" and "When Your Lover Has Gone". This album reached number 16 on the German pop charts and made him the nation's biggest-selling jazz artist of all time.

Floyd Cramer's known as a studio genius who's especially great in an intimate setting – but here are two albums that feature the legendary pianist in very different modes! First up is "Floyd Cramer With The Music City Pops" – a set that has Floyd's piano in front of the Nashville orchestra – who soar and glide along in these ways that are maybe even more upbeat than some of Cramer's usual material – even though the lineup features lots of strings and woodwinds. Second is "Floyd Cramer In Concert" - a compelling live album – with Floyd playing in front of an audience, but still recorded in all the best up-close modes of his other records.

The flautist Sharon Bezaly has released many discs on BIS, recordings which have contributed to the international recognition that she enjoys. On this disc, however, she turns to core repertoire, although not necessarily that of her own instrument. The two sonatas by César Franck and Gabriel Fauré were composed with the violin in mind, and even though Prokofiev's sonata was originally intended for the flute it is often heard in the composer's own version for violin and piano. But joined by the legendary pianist and conductor Vladimir Askenazy, Sharon Bezaly now claims the three works for her own instrument, in eloquent performances that make the best possible case for the flute.
