Forceful and mystic, with a beauty and intensity that reminded him of his first hearings of Miles, Mingus, or Monk, Belgian bassist & composer Piet Verbist was pulled into his deep study of Flamenco culture several years ago through a grant from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. After a dozen immersive trips to Andalusia to study, perform, and develop a repertoire, Piet presented concerts in Belgium and Málaga with his joint Spanish/Belgian ensemble, recording this album live in Antwerp at the end of 2023.

On that evening in Paris, the mikes were on – to conclude a partnership between the Arte Flamenco Festival and Scala Music – but above all, they were awaiting ‘elevation’, the “duende” (a heightened state of expression or emotion) which played its part in the jam-packed auditorium. Rafael Riqueni performed his entire body of work, spanning almost forty years of composition, presented chronologically.

The Danish ensemble Flamenco Passion meets three soloists, guitarist Mikkel Nordsø, violinist Bjarke Falgren and harmonica player Mathias Heise on the new album A Tribute to Paco de Lucia. The group Flamenco Passion are among the very best flamenco fusion groups in Scandinavia, led by guitarist Poul Jacek Knudsen alongside bassist Nicolai Land and percussionist Anders Pedersen. The album is a tribute to the late flamenco guitar icon Paco de Lucia, who has inspired countless flamenco artists and great jazz musicians such as Chick Corea and George Benson. The repertoire presented is original Flamenco Passion themes, one composition by Paco de Lucia plus two tracks composed by Mikkel Nordsø.

For four decades, Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia's jazzy, Mephisto-like technique redefined flamenco. This album, which means 'Good Small Things,' is de Lucia’s first release in five years, and it's been worth the wait. Most of the eight tracks feature just de Lucia, a chorus of vocalists, percussion, and the zesty handclaps called palmas. Lucia and company take you through the Moorish, Jewish, and Gypsy inventions and dimensions of flamenco, from the buleria 'Patio Custodio' and the torrid tientos 'El Tesorillo' to the moody, mid-tempo buleria por solea 'Antonia'.

Carlos García Montoya born in Madrid, Spain, was a prominent flamenco guitarist and a founder of the modern-day popular flamenco style of music.

A Spanish guitarist and composer, Carlos Montoya made a lasting contribution to music between the 20s and 50s. He introduced the flamenco style of music as a serious form of guitar music. Traditionally flamenco music was used to accompany gypsy folk dancers and singers but Carlos Montoya changed it into a main genre of music.

Rafael Riqueni has been developing original compositions for twenty years, halfway between contemporary Andalusian music, the classical repertoire of Manuel de Falla and Turina or Granados, and flamenco inspiration. He chose as his theme the story of the fortuitous discovery in 1959, in the south of Andalusia, of an exceptional group of prehistoric caves decorated by a group of young people. Like a sound tale, 'Nerja' takes us along in their footsteps with the magnetic Maria Moreno as a guide. With a strong personality and nourished by the purest tradition, the dancer is one of the revelations of recent years.

José Menese was considered one of the most important singers of the late 20th century and early 21st century, obtaining many prizes and distinctions along his professional career. José Menese Scott was born in La Puebla de Cazalla (Sevilla), but was in Madrid where José Menese made his first contact with the flamenco world and after passing through some difficulties, he debuts at tablao Zambra, the most prestigious in Madrid. There he sang every night during more than three years, and had the opportunity to know artists such as Perico el del Lunar, Rafael Romero, Pericón de Cádiz, Juan Varea, Rosa Durán, among others, all of them great professionals. His first record was released in 1963, in collaboration with the incomparable guitarist Melchor de Marchena.

Potro De Rabia Y Miel from 1992 was the last studio album by Spanish singer Camarón de la Isla before his death. The cover art is by painter Miquel Barceló, the arrangements are by Juan Albert Amargos and Jose Más "Kitflus," and the production is by Paco De Lucía. It also features collaborations with Tomatito, Carles Benavent, and Ramón El Portugués, among others. The album features tangos, tanguillos, bulerías, and a taranta, all recorded with the harsh reality of the onset of the illness that caused his death and all the difficulties that entailed.

Released in 1983 with Paco de Lucía, Tomatito on second guitar, and Rubem Dantas and Raimundo Amador on percussion. The title refers to the Calle Real in Cádiz where Camarón spent so much time.

In 1974, José Monge Cruz and Francisco Sánchez Gómez released their sixth full-length album, which has not failed to feature one every year since 1969. It is a title that still sounds fresh and in which they continue to insist on the perfection of the harmonies and the personal style with which they interpret tangos, fandangos, alegrías, etc.
