English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 180 Pages | ISBN : 3031556488 | 25.6 MB

Penile Color Duplex-Doppler Ultrasound (PDU) is one of the most important tools available to assess patients with erectile dysfunction (ED), which is a prevalent condition affecting near 50% of men over 50 years of age. Hemodynamic evaluations through PDU have also prognostic value and help choose the best treatment strategy for ED.

Mathematics of Multidimensional Seismic Imaging, Migration, and Inversion by N. Bleistein , J. W. Stockwell , J. K. Cohen
English | PDF | 2001 | 537 Pages | ISBN : 0387950613 | 48 MB

In the last 40 years geophysicists have found that it is possible to construct images and even determine important physical characteristics of rocks that can yield information about oil and gas bearing structures in the earth. To make these images and extract this information requires the application of an advanced understanding of the mathematical physics of wave propagation. The oil and gas industry labels a major collection of the necessary seismic data processing methods by the name seismic "migration".

English | PDF,EPUB | 2021 | 252 Pages | ISBN : 9811653275 | 128.1 MB

This book comprehensively outlines synchrotron-based X-ray imaging technologies and their associated applications in gaining fundamental insights into the physical and chemical properties as well as reaction mechanisms of energy materials. In this book the major X-ray imaging technologies utilised, depending on research goals and sample specifications, are discussed. With X-ray imaging techniques, the morphology, phase, lattice and strain information of energy materials in both 2D and 3D can be obtained in an intuitive way.

Biophotonics: Spectroscopy, Imaging, Sensing, and Manipulation by Baldassare Di Bartolo, John Collins
English | PDF (True) | 2011 | 416 Pages | ISBN : 904819976X | 13.8 MB

This volume describes an impressive array of the current photonic-related technologies being used in the investigation of biological systems. The topics include various types of microscopy (fluorescence correlation microscopy, two-photon microscopy), sensitive detection of biological molecules, nano-surgery techniques, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, nano-plasmonics, terahertz spectroscopy, and photosynthetic energy conversion. The emphasis is on the physical principles behind each technique, and on examining the advantages and limitations of each. The book begins with an overview by Paras Prasad, a leader in the field of biophotonics, of several important optical techniques currently used for studying biological systems. In the subsequent chapters these techniques are discussed in depth, providing the reader with a detailed understanding of the basic physical principles at work. An excellent treatment of terahertz spectroscopy demonstrates how photonics is being extended beyond the visible region. Recent results in the use of femtosecond lasers as a tool to porate cell walls demonstrate that the manipulation of light can be used as a tool for the study and the treatment of biological systems.

Ultra High Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Ultra High Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging by Pierre-Marie Robitaille , Lawrence Berliner
English | PDF (True) | 2006 | 487 Pages | ISBN : 0387342311 | 33.2 MB

From the early examples of what was to be called MRI, extending the te- nique to higher fields than those of less than 0. 1 T used in the first large-volume instruments was a goal, but the way there was unclear. The practical success of large superconducting magnets was a surprise, and the astonishment continued as they developed fields from 0. 3 T to 0. 6 T to 1. 5 T, and even more, up to the now common 3T systems, and a few 4T machines, and now to about 100 times the fields used in the first medium- and large-bore devices. In the early machines, low radiofrequencies of 4 MHz or so meant that RF coil designs were simple (even inexperienced undergraduates could design and build such circuits with little knowledge of more than DC electrical circuits), and the forces on gradient coils were small. The effects of magnetic susceptibility in- mogeneity in and around the object being imaged were negligible, and RF penet- tion depths were not a problem for human-scale samples. Everything began to change as higher fields and higher frequencies came into use, and the earlier idyllic simplicities began to seem quaint. The trend continued, however, driven by the increased signal-to-noise ratios and the resultant higher resolutions and speed available, and sophisticated engineering became more and more essential, not only for magnets but for gradient systems and radiofrequency transmitters and receivers, but also for better software for modeling and correcting distortions.

MRI of Short and Ultrashort-T_2 Tissues: Making the Invisible Visible by Jiang Du, Graeme M. Bydder
English | PDF (True) | 2024 | 612 Pages | ISBN : 3031351967 | 67.9 MB

This book comprehensively covers ultrashort echo time (UTE), zero echo time (ZTE), and other magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquisition techniques for imaging of short and ultrashort-T2 tissues. MRI uses a large magnet and radio waves to generate images of tissues in the body. The MRI signal is characterized by two time constants, spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) which describes how fast the longitudinal magnetization recovers to its initial value after tipping to the transverse plane, and spin-spin relaxation time (T2) which describes how fast the transverse magnetization decays. Conventional MRI techniques have been developed to image and quantify tissues with relatively long T2s.
